Frequent inhalation of brake pad dust, regardless of material composition, could be hazardous to your health.
|
1. | Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations. |
2. | Remove the rear wheels. |
3. | Check the thickness (A) of the inner pad (B) and outer pad (C). Do not include the thickness of the brake pad backing plate.
|
4. | If the brake pad thickness is less than the service limit, replace all the pads as a set. |
1. | Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations. |
2. | Remove the rear wheels. |
3. | Remove the flange bolts (A) while holding respective caliper pin (B) with a wrench. Be careful not to damage the pin boot, and remove the caliper (C). Check the hose and pin boots for damage and deterioration. NOTE: Do not twist the brake hose and the parking brake cable to prevent damage.
|
4. | Remove the pads (A).
|
5. | Remove the pad retainers (A).
|
6. | Clean the caliper bracket (B) thoroughly; remove any rust, and check for grooves and cracks. |
7. | Check the brake disc for damage and cracks. |
8. | Apply a thin coat of Molykote M77 grease to the caliper bracket on their mating surfaces (indicated by the arrows) against the retainers. |
9. | Install the pad retainers. Wipe excess grease paste off the retainers. Keep any grease paste off the discs and pads. |
10. | Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove any rust, and check for grooves and cracks. |
11. | Peel off pattern paper from the sticky shim (A), and stick and press it to the shim surface of the inner pad and the outer pad.
NOTE:
|
12. | Peel the backing paper of the sticky shim that was attached to the inner pad and the outer pad. |
13. | Apply a thin coat of Molykote M77 grease to the areas indicated by the arrows. Wipe excess grease off the brake pads. Contaminated brake discs or brake pads reduce stopping ability. Keep grease off the brake discs and brake pads.
|
14. | Install the brake pads correctly. If you are reusing the pads, always reinstall the brake pads in their original positions to prevent a momentary loss of braking efficiency. NOTE:
|
15. | Clean and degrease the outer supporting part (A) and the contact side of the piston (B) and the shim of the rear caliper. Make sure that no grease content was left.
|
16. | Rotate the caliper piston clockwise into the cylinder, then align the cutout (C) in the piston with the tab (D) on the inner pad by turning the piston back. Lubricate the boot with rubber grease to avoid twisting the piston boot. If the piston boot is twisted, back it out so it is positioned properly. Make sure the piston boot is in position to prevent damaging it when installing the caliper. NOTE:
|
17. | Install the rear caliper according to the inner pad. Install the new flange bolts (E), and tighten it to the specified torque while holding respective caliper pin (F) with a wrench. Be careful not to damage the piston boot and the pin boots. |
18. | Start the engine, press the brake pedal for 10 seconds (pedal pressure: 20 kgf). NOTE: This is to settle the sticky shim. |
19. | Press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work. NOTE: Engagement may require a greater pedal stroke immediately after the brake pads have been replaced as a set. Several applications of the brake pedal will restore the normal pedal stroke. |
20. | After installation, check for leaks at hose and line joints or connections, and retighten if necessary. Test-drive the vehicle, then check for leaks. |
