DTC Troubleshooting: B2991 (F+AUTO)

DTC B2991 or DTC indicator F and AUTO:Climate Control Unit Lost Communication with Audio HVAC Subdisplay Unit (with audio system) or HVAC Subdisplay Unit (without audio system)


1.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

2.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then ON(II).

3.Do the self-diagnostic with the HDS or climate control unit.

4.Check for DTCs.

Is DTC B2991 or F and AUTO indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Disconnect the climate control unit 32P connector.

7.Disconnect audio HVAC subdisplay unit connector E(5P) (with audio system) or the HVAC subdisplay unit 10P connector (without audio system).

8.Check the continuity between the following terminals of the climate control unit 32P connector and the audio HVAC subdisplay unit connector E (5P) (with audio system) or the HVAC subdisplay unit 10P connector (without audio system).

 

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Repair open in the wires between the climate control unit and the audio HVAC subdisplay unit (with audio system) or the HVAC subdisplay unit (without audio system).n

9.Check for continuity between body ground and the climate control unit 32P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 8 individually.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the wires between the climate control unit and the audio HVAC subdisplay unit (with audio system) or the HVAC subdisplay unit (without audio system).n


NO - Go to 10.

10.Reconnect the climate control unit 32P connector.

11.Connect the climate control unit 32P connector terminals No. 7 and No. 8 with a jumper wire.

 

12.Turn the ignition switch ON(II).

13.Press the RECIRCULATION CONTROL and OFF buttons.

Does the rear window defogger or recirculation control indicator turn on?


YES - Substitute a known-good audio HVAC subdisplay unit (with audio system) or HVAC subdisplay unit (without audio system), and recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original audio HVAC subdisplay unit (with audio system) or HVAC subdisplay unit (without audio system).n


NO - Substitute a known-good climate control unit, and recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original climate control unit.n
