DTC B1168: | Gauge Control Module Lost Communication with the ECM (ENG Message) |
1. | Clear the DTCs with the HDS. |
2. | Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II). |
3. | Wait for 6 seconds or more. |
4. | Check for DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC B1168 indicated? YES - Go to 5. NO - Intermittent failure. The gauge control module (tach) is OK at this time.n |
5. | Check for DTCs with the HDS. Are all of DTCs B1168, B1170, B1178, B1183 and B1187 also indicated at the same time? YES - Troubleshoot DTC B1178.n NO - Go to 6. |
6. | Check for PGM-FI system DTCs with the HDS. Is any DTCs indicated? YES - Go to the indicated troubleshooting.n NO - Go to 7. |
7. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
8. | Disconnect the gauge control module (tach) 36P connector. |
9. | Disconnect the ECM connector A (44P). |
10. | Connect the gauge control module (tach) 36P connector No. 1 and No. 19 terminals and body ground with jumper wires.

11. | Check for continuity between the ECM connector A (44P) terminals No. 36 and No. 37 and body ground individually.
Are there continuity? YES - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM (R18A2 engine, L13A7 engine), and recheck. If DTC B1168 is indicated again, replace the gauge control module (tach).n NO - Repair an open in the wire.n |
