| DTC B1170: | Gauge Control Module Lost Communication with the VSA Modulator-control Unit (VSA Message) |
| 1. | Clear the DTCs with the HDS. |
| 2. | Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II). |
| 3. | Wait for 6 seconds or more. |
| 4. | Check for DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC B1170 indicated? YES - Go to 5. NO - Intermittent failure. The gauge control module (tach) is OK at this time.n |
| 5. | Check for DTCs with the HDS. Are all of DTCs B1168, B1170, B1178, B1183 and B1187 also indicated at the same time? YES - Troubleshoot DTC B1178.n NO - Go to 6. |
| 6. | Check for VSA system DTCs with the HDS. Is any DTCs indicated? YES - Go to the indicated troubleshooting.n NO - Go to 7. |
| 7. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
| 8. | Disconnect the gauge control module (tach) 36P connector. |
| 9. | Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. |
| 10. | Connect the gauge control module (tach) 36P connector No. 1 and No. 19 terminals and body ground with jumper wires.

| 11. | Check for continuity between the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector terminals No. 38 and No. 39 and body ground individually.
Is there continuity? YES - Substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit, and recheck. If DTC B1170 is indicated again, replace the gauge control module (tach).n NO - Repair an open in the wire.n |
