DTC Troubleshooting: P0615 (198)

DTC P0615:  Starter Relay STRLD Circuit Malfunction


NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information.

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3.Start the engine.

4.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0615 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter relay 1 (ST CUT), starter relay 2, and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Check the No. 23 STARTER SIGNAL (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?


YES - Go to 7.


NO - Replace the No. 23 STARTER SIGNAL (7.5 A) fuse, then go to 12.

7.Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

8.Disconnect ECM connector A (44P).

9.Remove starter relay 1 (ST CUT) (A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

 

10.Connect starter relay 1 (ST CUT) 4P connector terminal No. 4 to body ground with a jumper wire.

 

11.Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A13 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 17.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A13) and starter relay 1 (ST CUT), then go to 12.


12.Reconnect all connectors and the battery.

13.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

14.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

15.Do the ECM idle learn procedure.

16.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0615 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter relay 1 (ST CUT), starter relay 2, and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n

17.Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM.

18.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0615 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter relay 1 (ST CUT), starter relay 2, and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM.n
