Special Tools Required
Locknut wrench, 43 mm ( 07MAA-SL00200)
1. | Set the wheels in the straight ahead position. |
2. | Remove the engine under cover. |
3. | RHD type: Remove the stiffener plate from the front subframe. |
4. | RHD type: Remove the exhaust hangers from the exhaust pipe B: L13A7 engine model, R18A2 engine model. |
5. | Remove the heat baffle plate (A) from the body, and move it aside.

6. | Vehicle with L13A7 engine model (RHD type): Remove the shift cable bracket, and move it aside. |
7. | Insert the special tool from the upper side of the front subframe, then set it on the rack guide screw locknut (A).

8. | Loosen the rack guide screw locknut with the special tool, then remove the rack guide screw (B). |
9. | Remove the old sealant from the rack guide screw (A), and apply new sealant (Three Bond 1215 or Loctite 5699) to the middle of the threads (B). Loosely install the rack guide screw on the steering gearbox.

10. | Tighten the rack guide screw (A) to 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m, 18 lbf·ft), then loosen it.

11. | Retighten the rack guide screw to 3.9 N·m (0.4 kgf·m, 2.9 lbf·ft), then back it off to the specified angle.

12. | Hold the rack guide screw stationary with a wrench, and install the locknut (B) by hand until it's fully seated. |
13. | Install the special tool on the locknut, and hold the rack guide screw stationary with a wrench. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque. |
14. | Check for unusual steering effort through the complete turning travel. |
15. | Check the steering wheel rotational play, and the power assist. |
