DTC Troubleshooting: P0201 (71-5), P0202 (72-5), P0203 (73-5), P0204 (74-5)

DTC P0201:  No. 1 Cylinder Injector Circuit Open
  
  
DTC P0203:  No. 3 Cylinder Injector Circuit Open
  
  


NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and review the general troubleshooting information.

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

4.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0201, P0202, P0203 and/or P0204 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injectors and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 1 minute.

6.Disconnect the injector 2P connector from the problem cylinder.

7.At the injector side, check for continuity between injector 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Go to 13.


8.Disconnect ECM connector No. 1 (96P).

9.Connect appropriate injector 2P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire (see table).

10.Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate ECM connector terminal (see table).

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 11.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 14.

11.Connect appropriate injector 2P connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire (see table).

12.Check for continuity between body ground and the appropriate ECM connector terminal (see table).

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 19.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 14.


13.Replace the problem injector.

14.Reconnect all connectors.

15.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

16.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

17.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

18.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0201, P0202, P0203 and/or P0204 are indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injector and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


19.Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM.

20.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

21.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0201, P0202, P0203 and/or P0204 are indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injector and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM.n
