Cam Chain Installation

NOTE: Keep the cam chain away from magnetic fields.

.Set the crankshaft to top dead center (TDC). Align the TDC mark (A) on the crankshaft sprocket with the pointer (B) on the engine block.

.Set the camshaft to TDC. The ‘‘UP'' mark (A) on the cam chain sprocket should be at the top. Align the TDC marks on the intake camshaft gear and the exhaust camshaft gear.

.Install the cam chain on the crankshaft sprocket with the colored link plate (A) aligned with the punch mark (B) on the crankshaft sprocket.

.Install the cam chain on the camshaft sprocket with the punch marks (A) aligned with the two colored link plates (B).

.Apply new engine oil to the threads of the tensioner arm mounting bolt (A), then install the tensioner arm (B).

.Install the auto-tensioner.

.Remove the pin from the auto-tensioner.

.Check the chain case oil seal for damage. If the oil seal is damaged, replace the chain case oil seal.

.Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the chain case mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.

.Clean, and dry the chain case mating surfaces.

.Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08C70-K0234M, 08C70- K0334M, evenly to the engine block and lower block mating surface of the chain case.

.Apply liquid gasket to the engine block upper surface contact areas (A) and lower block upper surface contact areas (B) on the chain case.

.Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08C70-K0234M or 08C70- K0334M, evenly to the oil pan mating surface of the chain case.

NOTE: Do not install components if 5 minutes or more have passed after applying the liquid gasket. Instead, remove the old residue and reapply the liquid gasket.

.Set the edge of the chain case (A) to the edge of the oil pan (B), then install the chain case on the block (C). Wipe off excess liquid gasket on the oil pan and chain case mating area.

NOTE:
  • When installing the chain case, do not slide the bottom surface on the oil pan mounting surface.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.
  • Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the chain case.

.Install the engine mount bracket and bolts, then tighten all bolts securely.

.Install the side engine mount upper bracket (A), then loosely tighten the new bolt and nuts (B), and loosely tighten the bolt (C).

.Install the ground cable (D).

.Tighten the new side engine mount stiffener mounting bolt (E), then tighten the side engine mount stiffener mounting bolts (F).

.Install the brake line mounting bolt (G).

.Remove the air cleaner housing assembly.

.Loosen the transmission mounting bolt and nuts (A).

.Raise the hoist to full height.

.Remove the engie undercover.

.Loosen the lower torque rod mounting bolt (A).

.Lower the vehicle on the hoist.

.Tighten the side engine mount upper bracket mounting bolts and nuts.

.Tighten the transmission mounting bolt and nuts.

.Raise the hoist to full height.

.Tighten the lower torque rod mounting bolt.

.Lower the vehicle on the hoist.

.Install the air cleaner housing assembly.

.Install the upper torque rod (A) and torque rod stiffener (B), then tighten the new torque rod stiffener mounting bolts (C).

.Tighten the new upper torque rod mounting bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

.Install the expansion tank (A) to the bracket, then install the upper part of the windshield washer tube reservoir (B), over flow tube (C) and A/C line mounting bolt (D).

.Install the cylinder head cover.

.Install the crankshaft pulley.

.Install the under-cowl panel.
